Draft Streets for People Recommendations available now! Public comment accepted through August 2024.
The Streets for People: Sacramento Active Transportation Plan will be a new plan for improving walking, rolling and bicycling in Sacramento and will guide future City and private development investment.
Streets for People will address active transportation needs citywide and will focus engagement in areas that lack basic transportation infrastructure and that are under-resourced. The engagement focus areas include South Sacramento, North Sacramento, and Fruitridge Broadway.

The Streets for People Plan will identify an all ages and abilities network for people walking, biking, and rolling citywide. The Plan will identify two types of active transportation routes:
Together, the networks will identify low-stress connections for Sacramento communities to connect to the places they need to go using active modes of transportation.
Sacramento’s urban forest provides multiple environmental, economic, and aesthetic benefits for residents, businesses, and visitors. Trees provide shade and help reduce energy consumption, in addition to improved air quality and providing habitat.
Expanding the urban tree canopy can also provide an enhanced active travel experience by providing shade for people walking, biking, and rolling, helping reduce barriers to active travel, particularly during the hot summer months. To improve the tree canopy and assess areas of need for additional tree plantings, the Streets for People Plan includes a Tree Opportunity Analysis (TOI) to inform where tree plantings should be prioritized to support the active transportation network.
The TOI will take a two-phase approach to identify areas to plant trees along with the active transportation network.
The Draft Streets for People and Neighborhood Connections recommendations are now available and we want your input!
The recommendations are based on your input in Phase 1 but that does not mean we’re done, we want to make sure we heard you right the first time! Or maybe you did not get to share your input and want to share now.
Phase II engagement will take place June through August 2024.
