The City of Sacramento offers employees and their eligible dependents the following voluntary benefit plans:

Flexible spending accounts

Enrollment in Flexible Spending Accounts for Medical and Dependent Care must be renewed annually. Eligibility for the FSA plan will terminate immediately upon separation from the City. Please refer to the Plan Summary Document for eligible expenditure reimbursements upon separation.

Life and disability insurance

The Standard Insurance additional coverage options:

  • Short Term Disability - Voluntary short term disability coverage for career employees. Coverage Summary Handout and Group Policy Certificate 
  • Long Term Disability - City paid long term disability insurance for Mayor, Councilmembers, Charter Officers, and management employees. Group Policy Certificate
  • Life Insurance - The City offers life insurance through The Standard. Coverage amounts and rates are determined by labor agreements, employee's salary, and age at time of enrollment. Life Insurance Group Policy Certificate
  • Supplemental Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) - Employees can purchase additional supplemental life and AD&D. 
  • Supplemental Choice Life and AD&D - Employees can purchase additional supplemental life insurance up to three times their annual salary. 
  • Additional Supplemental Life and AD&D - Employees can purchase an additional $10,000 AD&D insurance. 
  • Dependent Life Insurance - Employees can purchase $2,000 or $5,000 life insurance for a spouse and/or child(ren).

Group legal services

Group legal services are available through Legal Shield. Consult with a lawyer without the high expense, prepare your will, have documents reviewed, and have representation for law suits. Services also include, but are not limited to, uncontested divorce, adoption, and name change.

AflacGroup accident, hospital indemnity, and critical illness coverage

When can I enroll in Aflac? You can enroll within the first 30 calendar days of hire or during the City’s annual Open Enrollment period. To enroll, schedule an appointment with Aflac.

When can I cancel my Aflac coverage? You can cancel coverage at any time. Complete and sign the Cancellation Form and email the form to Benefit Services.
