5th Street Sewer Repairs

The City’s Department of Utilities has been repairing a part of the "combined" sewer system at the intersection of 5th Street and Crate Avenue in the Upper Land Park neighborhood.

A road closure is in place and detour signage directs drivers around the repairs.

Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians must follow detour signage and remain out of all closure areas.

City crews are working to minimize construction impacts to the public.

The project is expected to be complete by early August.

Crews are inspecting underground utilities and roadway conditions to determine next steps for repairs.
Traffic detours were established due to road closures at 5th St and Crate Avenue.
City staff working on a preliminary plan for permanent repairs.
Construction for permanent repairs is estimated to start by the end of next week.

May 10, 2024

Plans for permanent repairs have been completed.
Site surveys have been scheduled to monitor site conditions.
City-hired contractor began construction activities.

May 17, 2024

Department of Utilities and Public Works crews have been coordinating traffic control efforts for local properties.
A recent site survey has indicated that site conditions -- which contributed to the road damage -- have stabilized.

Contractor is working to relieve high groundwater levels during construction.
Site is being monitored to ensure soil conditions are stable.

Staff expect construction to be completed in July.

Contractor is working on utility repairs, including the 60-inch combined sewer main.
Monitoring continues and soil conditions remain stable.

July 26, 2024

Repairs on the combined sewer system have been completed.
Crews will soon start final repairs of the road.
Staff expect the project to be completed in early August.

Aug. 7, 2024

Final repairs of the road and removal of traffic detours are expected to occur by Aug. 16.
Some construction may still affect traffic; drivers are encouraged to drive safely.
