Beginning 2025, the City of Sacramento will no longer cover the cost of the credit/debit card transaction fees that cover payment processing costs charged by merchant processors and card brands. Read below for more info.

The City's Department of Utilities offers an online utility payment and billing service where customers can:

  • Enroll
  • Make payments
  • Send messages to the customer service team

Beginning 2025

Beginning 2025, the City of Sacramento will no longer cover the cost of the credit/debit card transaction fees for payment processing costs charged by merchant processors and card brands, such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, etc.

The Department of Utilities accepts alternate payment methods, such as check, money order, and cash, as well as bank transfer (home banking), which is a way to send money from one bank to another.

There is no charge to the customer for these payment methods.

The customer is responsible for the accuracy of bank account information entered.

Inaccurate information entered may result in a returned-payment fee of $25.
