Search Tips
Use the Filters bar on the left to narrow down your search results by many different criteria. On a smartphone or tablet you may need to tap "Show Filters" to reveal the bar.
Be sure to try the "Categories" section of filters. These allow you to filter your search results by the same topics that we use in our website menu, making it easy to find specific results even with a broad search query.
Selecting more than one filter within one section will add more search results.
Example: Selecting two content types at once such as Webpage and PDF will return both types.
Selecting filters in separate categories will narrow the results.
Example: Selecting a website such as City Website and a content type such as PDF will return only PDFs from the City website.
To require that a group of words be treated as one phrase, enclose them in quotes.
Example: Searching "my name" will only find results containing the complete phrase "my name". It will exclude results that only contain the words individually, as in the phrase "my last name".
Put a plus sign before a word to require that the word be present in all results.
Example: Searching your last +name will allow "your" or "last" to be absent in some results, but "name" will be required in all results.
Put a minus sign before a word to exclude that word from all search results.
Example: Searching -middle name will return only results which do not contain the word "middle," but which do contain the word "name".
Put an asterisk (*) in your query to match one or more characters at the end of a word.
Example: Searching sur* will return results for all words beginning with "sur," like "surname" or "surplus".
