Meter & Space Reservations allow exclusive use of parking spaces within City-approved construction zones or special event areas. These reservations are separate from the permits that allow construction projects or special events.
Meter & Space Reservations involve the posting of reserved spaces a minimum of 72 hours prior to the event or project start date. If properly posted, these signs will allow the City of Sacramento to legally tow or cite unauthorized vehicles parked in those spaces which cause any obstruction or interference with the construction project or special event.
Only contractors and special event coordinators who have obtained or applied for a construction permit or special event permit through the appropriate City divisions may apply for a Meter & Space Reservation through the Parking Services Division.
Approval of any City permits for construction projects or special events that allow obstructions or events on the public right-of-way will not include exclusive use of any parking spaces within that permit area.
If the parking spaces within the permit area are needed, then a separate reservation of those parking spaces through the Parking Services Division is required to ensure spaces are clear during the project or event period and to provide parking for commercial vehicles or special event vehicles.
Vehicles parked within these reserved spaces may only be commercially licensed vehicles or any special event vehicles approved under a special events permit. Reservations cannot include spaces to park personal vehicles, including personal vehicles of construction staff.
Any large items such as trash bins or construction equipment may use these reserved spaces if they are included in the Meter & Space Reservation form.
Permits for construction projects or special events must be submitted or approved by the appropriate City department prior to submitting an application for a Meter & Space Reservation.

Charter buses for tours, events, or school field trips visiting the downtown Sacramento area do not require Meter & Space Reservations. There are many on-street and off-street options available, most free of charge.
It is recommended that bus drivers drop passengers off at the venue destination, then park off-site at one of these designate bus parking spaces until passengers are ready for pick-up.
Spaces are available on a first-come basis. If a reserved space is needed, please apply for a Meter & Space Reservation.
