If you have already contested a citation and the citation was not dismissed (held liable), you may request an Administrative Hearing to appeal that decision.
Administrative Hearings are presided over by experienced legal personnel who are independent from the City of Sacramento. These hearings are another opportunity to present evidence or additional supporting documents that were not submitted with the citation contest review (first-level review).
A deposit will be required to book a hearing. The deposit amount is reflected in your citation contest disposition letter. If you are unable to pay the penalty deposit, you may be granted an exemption. To qualify for the exemption, you must submit a written request for an exemption with your hearing request. The deposit will be refunded if the Administrative Hearing Officer dismisses your case. If your citation is still upheld, the deposit will be applied towards the citation amount you owe (base fee + $12.50 Mandatory State Surcharge).
Instructions to request an Administrative Hearing are included in the initial disposition letter. Please read the instructions carefully, including the deposit instructions.
Only written requests and payments submitted by mail or dropped of at the Revenue Services counter during open hours will be accepted, including any supporting evidence and the full amount of the deposit.
