Alley Information

Alley information and services

The City currently has 1,200 alleys. Improvements have been made in the last several years to provide increased alley maintenance in various ways:

  • Alleys identified with evasive weeds and vegetation control problems are now proactively maintained by mowing, removing saplings, brush, and grading the right-of-way.
  • Dust control in semi-improved alleys is now accomplished using an effective mixture of water and magnesium chloride sprayed over graded road base material. A single application applied once annually to the road base, helps mitigate or reduce airborne dust problems.

A single application applied once annually to the road base, helps mitigate or reduce airborne dust problems. Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps (SRCC) with crews of up to 10 people are deployed to clean alleys of brush, weeds, tree limbs, debris, and perform other routine maintenance services.
