The City of Sacramento will be improving safety for those walking, biking, taking transit and driving, as well as improving connectivity for walking and biking with the Fruitridge Road Improvements Project. This project is located on Fruitridge Road between 65th Street and Power Inn Road and aims to safely accommodate all modes of travel through pavement rehabilitation, continuous bike lanes, reconstructing curb ramps, upgrading signal equipment, and other improvements. It will also increase accessibility by providing ADA-compliant curb ramps.
Fruitridge Road is an east-west arterial in South Sacramento with 4 vehicle lanes, a two-way left-turn lane, and segments of raised median island. There are intermittent segments of narrow bike lanes. The roadway does not have sufficient width for all of the following arrangements:
Because of the corridor constraints, this project will evaluate a lane reduction as an option to reallocate roadway width to better accommodate bicyclists and transit and to improve several crossings for pedestrians.
The Fruitridge Road Improvements Project will make several improvements that will benefit the community including:

The City was awarded federal funding for the complete street design and reconstruction on Fruitridge Road.
Phase 1
PA&ED/Environmental: June 2023 – April 2025
Design Completion: Winter 2025
Construction Begins: Spring 2026
Phase 2
PA&ED/Environmental: May 2024 – April 2025
Since the community workshop held in August 2023 at Earl Warren Elementary School, the Fruitridge Road Improvements project team has been refining the concept design plans utilizing the public's feedback and documenting technical studies in the City Project Report. The City has also initiated the evaluation of improvements to Fruitridge Road between Stockton Boulevard and 65th Street Expressway. These two segments of Fruitridge Road will be delivered as separate projects and on separate timelines.
The project has begun traffic analysis and conceptual design for Phase 2 of the project to evaluate pavement conditions, ADA improvements, and bicycle and pedestrian circulation.
As such, the City is planning the next round of community outreach for early 2025, which will include a community workshop providing updates on Phase 1 improvements, and soliciting feedback on improvements for Phase 2.
