Florin Road Vision Zero Safety Project
Project description
This project is the second and final phase of the Florin Road Vision Zero Safety Project. The project will build upon the improvements constructed in the Florin Road Vision Zero Rehabilitation Project by implementing safety countermeasures along Florin Road, from 24th Street and Munson Way, to enhance safety and increase network connectivity for bicyclists, pedestrians, and motorists. Proposed improvements include bicycle lane improvements, new signalized intersections and controlled crossings including a signalized crossing to and from the Florin Road light rail station, bus stop reconfiguration, driveway consolidation, median and sidewalk improvements, drainage improvements, a new gateway entrance to the Florin Road light rail station, curb ramp installation, and traffic signal synchronization.
Benefits
Florin Road between 24th Street and Munson Way was identified in the Vision Zero Action Plan as one of the City’s top five high injury corridors. Between 2009 and 2017, 16 crashes within the project’s limits resulted in a fatality or severe injury, eight of which involved a person walking or biking. The Florin Road Vision Zero Safety Project will address this collision history by slowing down automobile traffic, modernizing signal equipment, and improving bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
Cost & funding
The estimated total project cost is $5.6 million. This phase of the Florin Road Vision Zero Safety project will be constructed using Federal Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP) funds granted through the Sacramento Area Council of Government’s (SACOG) 2020 Regional program and $500,000 in regional funding for the federally participating second phase of work to cover preliminary engineering expenses.
Schedule
Construction is scheduled to begin in Spring 2025.
