The City of Sacramento is working to expand access to electric vehicles and electric bikes in our historically disadvantaged communities. We want to hear from you about how to make sure community members know about these important projects that are coming to your neighborhoods. Below are some of the initial projects.
Level 2 electric vehicle chargers will be installed at 13 sites to provide convenient access for residents who may have challenges charging at their home or work:
The City is working in partnership with the Sacramento Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) to expand the Our Community Car Share Program beginning with a hub at the Colonial Heights Library. Income-qualified residents near the library will be able to reserve an electric vehicle for personal errands at an affordable rate. The goal is to enhance mobility for households with limited options as well as to introduce residents to the benefits and ease of driving electric.
The Mangan Park expansion location at 5730 24th Street went live in August 2024.
Through a collaboration with the Sacramento Public Library, an electric tricycle (eTrike) lending program was launched in August 2023 at the Colonial Heights Branch. Library patrons at least 18 years old with a valid library card are able to check-out an electric tricycle with cargo capacity for personal use at no charge for 1 week. The goal is to introduce the community to electric-assisted cycling as an alternative for short local trips.
Ten eTrikes have been deployed at the Colonial Heights Branch. Five eTrikes will be deployed at the Belle Coolidge Branch as well as five eTirkes at the South Natomas Branch in September.
The North Natomas Library will deploy 5 unique eBikes based on a donation from North Natomas Jibe in the fall.
There will be an equity analysis on the City of Sacramento’s Electric Vehicle Blueprint Strategy. We would like to hear community input on electric vehicles to create equity metrics and goals. These metrics and goals will be used to evaluate the EV Blueprint projects on key indicators of equity.
