Meet Lieutenant Robert Young

Office of Operations – North Command

Lieutenant Robert Young currently serves as Day Watch Commander for our North Command. He previously led Special Operations in our Metro Division. Robbie began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2006.

Robbie first came to Sacramento to attend college at Sacramento State University where he received a degree in Criminal Justice. Robbie is from Alaska and the Pacific Ocean called him back for a few years to work as a professional fishing guide before moving back to Sacramento full time in 2006 to attend the police academy.

Robbie has worked in a variety of assignments as an officer including patrol, SWAT, Regional Transit, and the Gang Enforcement Team. He promoted to Sergeant and went on to supervise a patrol team, the Cannabis Compliance and Investigation Unit, the SWAT team and finally working in our Professional Standards Units as the supervisor of the Inspection and Standards Team.

In 2021, Robbie promoted to the rank of lieutenant where he is currently serving as a Watch Commander. Robbie was a member of the departments Honor Guard Team for over 10 years. Robbie loves being around kids and making memorable experiences for them he is one of the founders of the SacPal ski team.

Robbie is married with two children and when not at work you can find him coaching youth sports or fishing on the ocean.
