Meet Lieutenant Joe Bailey

Office of Investigations – Major Crimes

Lieutenant Joe Bailey began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2002. He is currently assigned to the Office of Specialized Services, Homeland Security Division.  He previously served assignments in Major Crimes Division, the Training Division, Sacramento Police Academy, Field Training Unit, Patrol, Detectives, and the Professional Standards Unit. Prior to joining SPD, Joe served in the Marnie Corps Reserve.

Joe earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Behavior from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from American Military University. He also graduated from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, has served as a board member for the California Peace Officers Association and as an administrator for the Police Athletic League Rugby Club. Prior to joining SPD, Joe held retail jobs at Costco and Hallmark.

Joe received a Unit Citation for his work with the Gang Suppression Unit, a Distinguished Service Award for his efforts with the PAL Rugby Club, and the Bill Bean Jr. Youth Commitment Award.

Joe is proud to have grown the PAL Rugby Club from one middle school team of 15-20 kids to a program that now has over 200 kids with teams from 1st grade through high school. Joe was drawn to a career in law enforcement because he always wanted to work in a profession serving others. He was recruited while working a retail job.

Joe is married with two sons. In his free time, he enjoys gardening and fishing.
