Meet Lieutenant Dave Putman

Lieutenant Dave Putman began his career with the Sacramento Police Department in 2004. He is currently a Watch Commander with the South Command. Dave has worked in many assignments throughout his career including as a pre-hire, Patrol Officer, Gang Enforcement Officer, Felony Assaults Detective and Homicide Detective. While on the South Gang Enforcement Team, Dave and his team played a big role in the development and implementation of our Cops and Clergy program.

In February of 2021 Dave was promoted to Sergeant. As a Sergeant, Dave worked as a Patrol team supervisor, as a Sergeant of Detectives in the Office of Investigations and he also became a member of the SPD Peer Support Team. Dave was promoted to Lieutenant in July of 2024.

Throughout his career Dave attended ongoing professional training to include the SPD Front Line Leadership course and the POST Supervisor course.

Dave grew up in the greater Sacramento area and is a third-generation law enforcement professional who knew he wanted to be a part of SPD after 1 ride along. In his off-time Dave enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and two children and golfing with friends.
