Office of the Chief - Media Services/PIO
Amber Heinlein joined the Sacramento Police Department in December 2022 as a Media and Communications Specialist in the Chief’s Office. Bringing over 25 years of experience in sales, marketing, brand development, and communications, Amber transitioned to public safety after working with well-known brands such as the Sacramento Kings, McDonald's, VSP and national advertising agency Moroch.
During her first two years with the department, Amber quickly immersed herself in the public safety landscape. She led efforts to develop and implement a new brand identity and core values, collaborating with teams across the organization to drive this initiative forward.
Now serving as the Communications Manager, a newly established role, Amber oversees media services and the Public Information Officer (PIO) team. She leads the department’s strategic communications, focusing on fostering public trust, enhancing transparency, and aligning messaging with the Chief’s priorities.
Amber holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from California State University, Sacramento, where she competed as a heptathlete on a full track and field scholarship.
