2018-06-06: 700 N 5th Street

Summary

On Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at approximately 1:45 p.m. a Sacramento Police Officer driving a marked patrol wagon assisted Parole Agents, from the State of California, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, with transporting a subject to the Sacramento County Main Jail. During the transport, the officer became concerned, parked the patrol wagon in the jail entry way and went to check on the subject. The officer opened the door and discovered the subject was unresponsive. He requested emergency medical assistance.

The officer evaluated the subject’s condition and vital signs. After retrieving first-aid equipment, the officer and parole agent began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). CPR remained in progress until the Fire Department arrived and took over medical care. The subject was transported to a local area hospital where he was pronounced deceased by a physician.

Audio and video releases

On June 13, 2018 the Sacramento Police Department released audio and video records related to this investigation. The material released consisted of two (2) in-car camera (ICC) videos, two (2) body-worn camera (BWC) videos and one (1) police audio file. As we continue to gather information related to this incident, more material may become available.

All video and audio being released has been redacted to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of those involved. The faces have been blurred and audio redactions are signified by muted audio with no accompanying sound.

Status and released records

On June 20, 2018 the Sacramento Police Department released the  Sacramento County Coroner's autopsy report associated with this incident.

The Sacramento County District Attorney's Office released the results of their investigation on December 2, 2019.
