Biography of Councilmember Guerra

Mayor Pro Tem Eric Guerra is a proud Sacramento State alum, having earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration at California State University, Sacramento. He currently lives in Tahoe Park with his family.

During Councilmember Guerra’s 22 years in the California State Legislature, he held numerous positions and worked on important legislation like the California Dream Act. Prior to his election to the City Council in 2015, Councilmember Guerra served as the Governor appointee to the California State University Board of Trustees, President of the Sacramento State Alumni Association, and Chair of the Sacramento County Planning Commission.

Councilmember Guerra was elected to represent Sacramento City Council District 6 in April 2015 and has won reelection since. He represents the City of Sacramento on its standing Budget and Audit Committee, Racial Equity Committee, and Personnel and Public Employees committee. He was serves as Mayor Pro Tem role. Additionally, Councilmember Guerra sits on several joint powers authorities and regional boards:

  • California Air Resources Board (CARB) 
  • Sacramento Employment and Training Agency (SETA) 
  • Sacramento Area Sewer District Board (SacSewer) 
  • Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) 
  • Sacramento Transportation Authority (STA)

District 6 is bordered by Stockton Boulevard and Little Saigon in the West, Watt Ave in the East, Sacramento State and Fair Oaks Blvd in the North, and Morrison Creek and Glen Elder in the South.

Mayor Pro Tem Eric Guerra is focused on improving the quality of life in our neighborhoods through protecting our parks, revitalizing business corridors like Stockton Boulevard and Power Inn Road, reducing secondhand smoke, and advocating for more bike lanes and pedestrian safety. He is devoted and proud to serve the community that he has called home for more than 28 years.
