Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Generative AI represents a groundbreaking achievement in artificial intelligence, generating content like text, images, and videos based on learned patterns from its training data.  While generative AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini enhance productivity through automated content creation, they also raise concerns about user privacy and the potential for inaccuracies in critical applications like medical diagnosis or financial advice due to insufficient training data.

Did you know… In 1997, IBM's Deep Blue was the first AI machine to defeat former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov under regular time.

AI Best Practices

  1. Understand the AI Tool: Know the basic concepts on how the tool operates, security and data privacy measures. You do not need to understand all of the technical details.
  2. Data Privacy: Be cautious of inputting confidential or personal information into generative AI tool. It’s best to assume that everything you provide will be publicly available.
  3. Verification and Validation: AI responses can be incorrect. You should not rely on AI responses but double-check the output. Do not make critical decisions solely based off the AI response without human oversight verifying through other resources.
  4.  Bias Awareness: Just like humans, AI algorithms can be biased based on patterns found in data they were trained on. Therefore, be cautious of bias answers and report any inaccurate information and decisions.
  5. Regular Updates: Keep AI tools updated to improve performance and to protect from vulnerabilities.

AI Parental Control

Generative AI can be a powerful tool for learning and creativity for children. However, parents should have oversight what AI tools their children are using and set appropriate boundaries.

  • Supervise Usage: Encourage children to use generative AI tools responsibly and set guidelines for usage such as limiting screen time and allowing certain apps and services.
  • Content Filtering: Filter out inappropriate content and ensure that the generated content is age appropriate.
  • Ethical Use: Avoid using generative AI tools in manner that may disrupt or harm children's development.
