Fire Captain Justin Sylvia is the Sacramento Fire Department's Public Information Officer. He was appointed to the Public Information Office in January 2023.
He serves as the primary liaison between Sacramento Fire and the media, ensuring firefighting operations and other incidents information reach the public through the media and social media platforms.
Wendy Aguilar joined the Sacramento Fire Department in 2019 and plays a vital role in media relations, serving as the primary spokesperson for Spanish news outlets.
At the same time, she leads the department’s storytelling efforts, creating engaging content across all social media platforms to showcase the dedication and impact of our members.
In 2023, the California Public Information Officials named her Communicator of the Year for her keen ability to shape and enhance the Department's digital presence.
She was also named Rising Influencer of the Year by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Capital Chapter for her transformative contributions to public relations and for reshaping the Sacramento Fire Department's outreach efforts.
With a true passion for storytelling, Wendy brings the Department's narrative to life. She curates featured stories, including the captivating "I AM SACRAMENTO FIRE" video series, which shines a spotlight on the incredible dedication and hard work of the Department's firefighters and support staff.
Prior to joining Sacramento Fire, she garnered extensive experience as a television reporter, working for news stations in Arizona, California, and Texas. Wendy proudly earned a bachelor's degree in journalism with a minor in Spanish-language media from California State University, Northridge, paving the way for her career as a bilingual communicator.
