Established in 1914, the Sacramento Fire Department’s Training Division is as forward-thinking as it is historic. The Training Division delivers professional training programs that prioritize safety and provide firefighters with the skills, instincts, and leadership to operate on emergency incidents at the highest level.
From basic fire academies and foundational skills for new hires to advanced scenario-based drills and professional development for its seasoned personnel, Sacramento Fire’s Training Division incorporates the best, most current practices and standards.
In addition to supporting its members with ongoing training scenarios, multi-company drills, and safety briefings, the division oversees the Sacramento Regional Fire Academy, Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), and Physical-Fitness/Health & Wellness programs.
It also provides professional development and promotional academies for all ranks, as well as probationary firefighter development.
The Sacramento Regional Fire Academy (SRFA) trains and develops new hires, fire recruits, with advanced firefighting, rescue, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) skills to prepare them for the field.
SRFA develops recruits beyond standard firefighter training by dedicating time each day to cultivate leadership, professionalism, and resilience, and to instill an affinity for continuous education, fitness, mental-health wellness, and fire service values.
SRFA is widely considered one of the best in the state. In 2023, SRFA won the State Fire Training’s Ronny J. Coleman California Accredited Academy of Excellence.
SRFA works seamlessly with regional fire departments and local educational institutions, and is a staunch supporter of state fire training and national standards.
SRFA has trained firefighters from Sacramento, West Sacramento, Woodland, Sacramento Airport, Benicia, U.C. Davis, El Dorado County fire departments, and other surrounding areas. If you are interested in joining our next fire academy, please visit joinsacfire.org
