Utility User Tax Rebate

The City of Sacramento Utility Users Tax Rebate (UTR) program runs from January 2 to March 15 of each year. The City of Sacramento only refunds the tax for basic cable and telephone service (a maximum of $25.00 and $7.00 respectively). To be eligible for the refund you must:

  • Lived in the City of Sacramento for the previous year
  • Paid utility tax in the previous year
  • Claim "Head of Household"
  • Have total gross household income of $25,000 or less

Applications are automatically mailed to recipients from the previous year. New applicants must provide proof of all of the above. New applicants may come to the new City Hall building at 915 I Street, Room 1201 or call (916) 808-7736.

Rebates for electricity and gas

Rebates on your electric bill are done directly through SMUD's EAPR program or you can call them at 1-888-742-7683

Rebates on your gas bill are done directly through PG&E's CARE program or you can call them at 1-866-743-2273.
