Using SolarAPP+

Automated solar review through SolarAPP+

 

What is SolarAPP+?

SolarAPP+, short for Solar Automated Permit Processing, automates the residential solar plan review process for issuing permits to licensed contractors to install code-compliant residential photovoltaic (PV) systems. The Public Permit Portal has been enhanced to include submissions of SolarAPP+ so registered users can apply for permits.

Submittal instructions are provided below.

Apply for solar using SolarAPP+

Step 1: Eligibility to use SolarAPP+
  • Residential structures only (1 and 2 residential units and ADUs) 
  • Licensed contractors only 
  • No ballasted systems 
  • Please review the SolarAPP+ Eligible Systems for acceptable projects
Step 2: Submit for automated review through SolarAPP+
  • Submit Solar/Photovoltaic design at SolarAPP+ website
  • Click Sign in or Register to get started
  • Contractor license information is required to complete this step
  • A processing fee will be charged by SolarAPP+
  • The City of Sacramento permit fees will be charged separately
  • Download the SolarAPP+ approval documents

Step 3: Apply for Permit

  • Apply for a permit online via the City of Sacramento Public Permit Portal
  • Click Login or Register to get started
  • Go to Building tab and select Apply for Minor, Production or Residential Solar permits or Safety Inspections
  • Accept the terms of service, follow the prompts, and click Continue Application
  • Select Residential Solar, then Continue Application, and follow the prompts to provide application details
  • Input the SolarAPP+ Approval ID number to proceed
  • Upload the SolarAPP+ approval documents, CDD Building Application for Solar Energy Systems, SMUD interconnection letter, and construction plans
  • Follow the prompts, review/edit application details, and then continue to make payment online
  • After payment, a Record Number will be issued
  • Print or save the emailed permit documents

Step 4: Schedule an Inspection

  • Log in or set up an account at the City of Sacramento Public Permit Portal
  • Go to Building tab and select Apply for Minor, Production or Residential Solar permits or Safety Inspections
  • Accept the terms of service, follow the prompts, and click Continue Application
  • Select Residential Safety Inspection Request
  • Input the permit Record Number (e.g., RES-#######), and follow the prompts to complete the inspection scheduling

SolarAPP+ Revision

  • SolarAPP+ revisions are handled exclusively by the City of Sacramento
  • Resubmit to the City of Sacramento Public Permit Portal
  • Go to Planning tab, and select Create Planning Application or Clearance to Submit to Building
  • Accept the terms of service, follow the prompts, and click Continue Application
  • Follow the prompts to provide application details
  • Select Building Permit Submittal Clearance as the Application Type
  • Select Revision to Issued Residential Permit as the Activity Type, and provide the previously issued Record Number (e.g., RES-#######)
  • Upload the City of Sacramento Revision Intake form (CDD-0269), SMUD interconnection letter, construction plans, and equipment specifications
  • Follow the prompts, review/edit application details, and then continue
  • A Planning Record Number (e.g., PLN##-#####) will be issued, and the submittal package will be routed for plan review
  • Upon approval, fees will be invoiced, and permit issued upon payment

Apply for Permit

  • Apply for a permit online via the City of Sacramento Public Permit Portal
  • Click Login or Register to get started
  • Go to Building tab and select Apply for Minor, Production or Residential Solar permits or Safety Inspections
  • Accept the terms of service, follow the prompts, and click Continue Application
  • Select Residential Solar, then Continue Application, and follow the prompts to provide application details
  • Check disclosure box to proceed with Standard Plan Review (located below SolarAPP Approval ID)
  • Upload the CDD Building Application for Solar Energy Systems, SMUD interconnection letter, construction plans, and equipment specifications
  • Follow the prompts, review/edit application details, and then continue
  • A Planning Record Number (e.g., PLN##-#####) will be issued, and the submittal package will be routed for plan review
  • Upon approval, fees will be invoiced, and permit issued upon payment
