Inspections are to be scheduled as normal. On the day of your inspection, your inspector will contact you by phone to set up an inspection time.
If you have questions, you can visit our Inspection Status page for up-to-date information on scheduled inspections, your inspector's name, and cell phone number.
Inspection requests can be made 24 hours a day by phone or online. Requests made before 6:00 p.m. will be scheduled for the following work day. Requests made after 6:00 p.m. and on weekends or holidays will be scheduled two working days later.
Extended inspection hours are offered for your convenience and will be scheduled based upon availability of inspectors. To request an after-hour inspection, submit the following form. All after-hours/overtime inspections are charged the current staff hourly rate, at time and a half, with a two hour minimum paid in advance.
Construction work may only commence Monday through Saturday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and Sunday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. In case of urgent necessity and in the interest of public health and welfare the Chief Building Official may permit work to be done outside of these hours for a period not to exceed three days (Sacramento City Code 8.68.080). Application for this exemption may be made in conjunction with the building permit application or during construction. To make a request for after hours construction work download our template here
If an applicant receives a correction notice during an inspection, a reinspection of the work is required. The customer can reschedule the inspection once the corrections are complete and the reinspection fee is paid.
Note: A reinspection fee may be assessed if the corrections are incomplete.
The following is required at the time of an inspection:
A Safety Inspection request record is required before scheduling an SMUD and/or PG&E Safety Inspection.
Safety Inspections allow the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and the Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) service technicians to reconnect and energize gas or electrical services. If services have been disconnected at a property for an extended period, SMUD and PG&E may require that the existing, currently inactive, electrical or gas systems be inspected for code compliance prior to restoration.
If city inspectors are unable to access the property to perform this inspection - including access to the interior - a new safety inspection request must be obtained. If the safety inspection does not pass, a separate building permit will be required before repair work can begin and additional inspection scheduled.
