Daily routine

Learn the daily routine that it takes to help keep the animals healthy and safe. This is the best opportunity to help make an impact at the shelter. Be an Animal Care superhero and help our team with daily routine activities!

Enrichment activities

There are many ways to help decrease "FAS" (fear, anxiety, stress) while animals are in the kennels.

  • Click for quiet, find-it games, and touch exercises for dogs
  • Scent and sight entertainment for cats
  • Distribute toys and make toys
  • Slow feeders, kongs, and lick plates

Customer service activities

We aim to provide a safe space for all visitors and welcome a diverse community as well as volunteer supportive team. Customer service opportunities are critical to our organizational success!

Dog handler

The dog handler team walks the dogs, takes videos and photos for adoptions and rescue networking, shows dogs at events, assists in transferring dogs to their new homes by adoption counseling, teaches leash manners, train dogs on how to show their best selves in the play yards, and much more!

  • Complete 12 hours of cleaning assistance (dog morning routine recommended)
  • Utilize free trainings offered to learn about dog behavior within a shelter
  • Complete mentorship training sessions within 4 months
  • Volunteer and log at least 4 dog handling hours or 2 shifts a month

Veterinary assistance

The shelter's medical team welcomes experienced veterinary assistants to help with various tasks in the medical building. Opportunities include training for those who do not have any prior experience.

  • Cleaning and wrapping surgery packs
  • Animal restraint assistance
  • Vaccination clinics for foster dogs and foster cats
  • Assistance with the HOAP (Homeless Outreach and Assistance Program) Team during field visits

Office help

We aim to provide a safe space for all visitors and welcome a diverse volunteer supportive team. Our dog foster and cat foster teams as well as main office team need your assistance to get all things done.

  • Filing paperwork
  • Creating adoption packets
  • Entering behavior notes into the electronic database

Outreach activities

We continue to find ways to help our community’s pets and spread animal care welfare through education. Activities include both at the shelter and out in the community.
