Post-Secondary education is offered by a variety of institutions throughout the region. The University of California, Davis (UC Davis), California State University, Sacramento (Sacramento State), seven community colleges, numerous vocational schools, professional schools, private schools, and local satellite campuses of colleges headquartered elsewhere in the nation provide for the educational needs of local businesses and Sacramento.

The Education and Knowledge Creation cluster includes nearly 10,000 jobs in activities ranging from educational institutions to newspaper, periodical, book, and directory publishers which typically demand office and some industrial space.

Key locally headquartered employers and businesses

California State University, Sacramento founded in 1947, is a public university in the city of Sacramento. Sacramento State ranks as the 16th best public university in the Western United States.
University of California at Davis (UC Davis) serves as the ninth best public university according to the U.S. News and World Report list of Best Colleges. With over 35,000 students, UC Davis offers 99 undergraduate and 90 graduate programs. The UC Davis Graduate School of Management with its Davis and Sacramento campuses, the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento and the UC Davis Law School are all in the Top 50 programs for their respective fields. The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine ranks as the second best Veterinary School in the country according to the U.S. News and World Reports
Los Rios Community College District. The Los Rios Community College District offers higher education options at four community colleges to serve the Sacramento Region and is the second largest in terms of student enrollment in the state of California.
University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, founded in 1924, is a private, American Bar association approved law school in the Oak Park neighborhood of Sacramento. With over 600 law school students, and 120 full time and adjunct professors, McGeorge Law School is an important part of the higher education sector in the Sacramento community.
University of San Francisco has a Sacramento campus that offers four bachelor degree programs and four graduate degree programs.
University of Southern California (USC). The University of Southern California’s Price School offers a Master of Public Administration program as part of the USC State Capital Center. Students in the public sector, lobbying and legislative fields enjoy the proximity to the state capitol in Sacramento. USC’s Master of Public Administration Program ranks sixth according to the U.S. News and World Report.
