What is a trust building or conflict transformation circle?

This information was shared by the nINA Collective and the Racial Equity Alliance in preparation for the circles.

A conflict transformation circle is open to anyone interested in developing their conflict resilience skills and creating a supportive space to explore and transform conflict.

During the Circle, we will explore various tools and techniques for conflict transformation, including active listening, peaceful communication, and mindfulness practices. We will also work to cultivate a deeper understanding of our reactions to conflict and develop strategies for responding with compassion and empathy.

The nINA Collective, is committed to creating an inclusive space that supports all participants. In order to prepare for the Circle, please take some time to reflect on your intentions for participating and how you can bring a spirit of openness and curiosity to the Circle.

Circles are a volunteering and consensual process. When participating in Circle, we ask that you refrain from using external technology unless urgent. Circles are an experiential learning process centered on relationships and making our interconnections visible.

In order to create a supportive space, it's important that all participants agree to the following parameters:

  • Respect for confidentiality: What is shared in the Circle stays in the Circle.
  • Respectful communication: Speaking from the heart, using "I" statements, and avoiding blame and judgment.
  • Active listening: Being fully present and attentive to the speaker without interruption or distraction.
  • Commitment to growth: Being open to learning from others and willing to reflect on our own perspectives and biases.
  • Please note that this is not a therapy or counseling session. If you have a specific issue that requires professional support, please seek help from a qualified therapist or counselor.
